So far, I really like this book. It is like nothing else I have read before. Oskar is an interesting character. I like the way he thinks and the ideas he presents. I can't help but feel both sad and confused while reading this book. Oskar and his dad really seemed to have a special bond, and now that his dad is gone, Oskar has changed. I was kind of confused when reading the part about the person who didn't have words and couldn't speak. Was that person Oskar? I thought it was his grandfather, and the woman was his grandmother, because the woman in that part (pg. 30) said, "'...the weather is one hundred dollars...'" and then later on (pg. 71), Oskar's grandmother said, "'That sounds like one hundred dollars.'" This part, and many other parts, seem to me like they are going to all come together at the end of the book. At this moment, it is frustrating because nothing seems to make sense, but hopefully by the end, it all will.

I was very confused about this too. I don't think that the man who can't talk is Oskar because they seem to have different thought processes and Oskar has a very specific manner in which he thinks and talks. It is very unclear how this other parallel story will fit in, but i hope it will become apparent soon.
ReplyDeleteI really like Oskar's character, too. The way he conveys thought makes the book so much more interesting to read. I'm pretty sure the silent man wasn't Oskar. I also like the prediction that there are parts of the story not very clear and prevalent now, but will be in the future when they form one big scenario. This kind of work also confused me, but I'm looking forward to reading how they play out in the end.
ReplyDeleteYeah I also feel kind of sad while reading this book, because of the relationship Oskar and his dad shared. Also that he isn't as close to his Mom makes it even sadder, kind of like his dad brought the whole family together, but once he died it seems like the relationship between them grew more apart.
