grandfather's speech

I don't understand why Oskar's grandfather always uses the grandmother's hands to make motions to communicate, rather than demonstrating with his own body. Is this simply part of their relationship?

  1. I think that is how they communicate with eachother. I think because the grandmother has very crummy eyes that when he makes the motions with her hands she can pick up what he is trying to say.

  2. It is definitely part of the relationship, it's more personal and gives her a more personal feeling of what he's trying to say.l The eyesight definitely might be something to do with it as well

  3. I forget exactly what page it was on, but I remember Oskar's grandma saying that she made up the "crummy eyes" in order to feel special and loved. He probably does because he thinks that she only be able to understand if he does it to her body.
